A 501c3 Nonprofit Organization
JWSevereWeather was initially founded in 2012 by Jesse Walters to create another avenue for chasers and weather enthusiasts a way to share their pictures, videos, and experiences. After assembling several members throughout the initial year, the vision was changed into an Immediate Response oriented vision, while also providing warning to those in the path of only confirmed tornadoes. Educational meetings with schools and organizations also came into play during the 2013/2014 years. Focusing primarily on the Immediate Response Team and Warning goals, several new members joined the organization, now spanning from New Zealand to Greece and Canada. However, after several successful chases from JWSevereWeather members in the spring of 2015 capturing media from tornadoes that did not affect many people, the organization was restructured to cover not only Media and Immediate Response and Warning, but include Research, and hopes to add a relief and rebuilding chapter in the near future. The organization has applied to become a 501c3 Charitable Organization, opening up new avenues with sponsors and private donors. With almost 30 members and growing, JWSevereWeather contains personnel that offer various strengths, skills, talents, and abilities.
